Tamdhu releases 120th Anniversary Single Cask Distillery Team Edition

Tamdhu Single Cask Distillery Team Edition – 120 Anniversary

Marking an Anniversary in style

Just like its enthusiasts and collectors, when a distillery reaches a significant anniversary it almost always marks the occasion with a special whisky. Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has kept to this tradition and released an exclusive Single Cask Distillery Team Edition, bottled to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Speyside distillery.

Selected by the 15-strong Tamdhu distillery team and bottled un-chill-filtered at cask strength, only 603 individually numbered scarce bottles will be released. Matured in a European oak first-fill sherry butt, the single malt has a smooth, long-lasting finish and a deep natural colour.

To find the cask best suited to mark the momentous anniversary, a range of ages and cask types were considered, including European and American sherry oak, and blind-tasted by the expert distillery team.

Sandy McIntyre, Distillery Manager at Tamdhu Distillery, said: “The distillery team had a lot of fun nosing and tasting nine samples and voting for their favourites. The final top three were then selected for a blind nosing and tasting and ranked by each of the team members to agree on the winning cask.”

The victor was a European first fill sherry butt, which boasts an exceptional natural colour from years of maturing in Tamdhu’s traditional dunnage Warehouse Number Five.

Sandy McIntyre continued: “This cask is something to savour and enjoy over a prolonged period. I would expect this bottle to be opened on special occasions when you would share a dram, or two, with close friends and family or even just to keep for yourself – selfish, perhaps, but who can blame you!”

Celebrating a Significant Age Statement

A similar story can be found behind the recent release by The Macallan of their 50 Year old, not to mark an anniversary as such, but to reflect the significant achievement of a whisky that has been maturing for over five decades. This exceptional single malt is a testament to the skills and expertise of The Macallan Masters of Wood, whose craftsman continues to source, craft, toast and season casks that allow the Macallan Master Distillers to create these incredible releases.

Another fine example is The Dalmore release of a 50 year old single malt to mark half a century of Richard Paterson’s pioneering whisky-making.

The Dalmore 50 Year Old

Building on the celebrations surrounding Richard’s 50th anniversary of working within the whisky industry, the limited edition, The Dalmore 50 year old has been meticulously crafted in partnership with four other legendary luxury houses, to serve as a fitting tribute to each year of his illustrious career.

With a maximum of 50 decanters released, which are hand-filled on order, The Dalmore 50 has been matured in American white oak, Matusalem oloroso sherry casks from the world renowned Gonzalez Byass Bodega and port Colheita pipes from the Douro region of Portugal, before undertaking a final finesse for 50 days in rare champagne casks from Domaine Henri Giraud.

This truly unique whisky resides in exquisite crystal decanters created by the French crystal house Baccarat, each of which securely housed within a presentation case designed and crafted by the accomplished furniture makers at LINLEY.

Finally, each decanter is adorned with a solid silver stag, created by silversmiths Hamilton & Inches, holder of The Royal Warrant.

Richard Paterson, Master Distiller at The Dalmore said: “This is a special year for me so I chose to finesse this whisky in a champagne cask, as this magnificent drink is synonymous with celebratory occasions.”
